Central Indiana Metropolitan Planning Area
The IMPO plans and programs funding within a specific area, known as the Metropolitan Planning Area (MPA). The MPA includes the urbanized area of Central Indiana (the areas that are already mostly developed, identified on the map by the Urbanized Area – UA) plus the areas that are expected to urbanize over the next 20 years. The IMPO guides the development of a multi-modal transportation system within the MPA. Any roadway or pathway that runs along an outer edge of the UA is considered within the UA. Any roadway or pathway that runs along an outer edge of the MPA is considered within the MPA.
