FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INDIANAPOLIS (March 26, 2026) – The Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization (IMPO) will host the first session of its new Planning in Action: Policy, People & Place Speaker Series on Monday, March 31, at the Indiana Historical Society Theatre, focusing on how local policies can expand housing options across Central Indiana.

The session, titled “Increasing Housing Diversity: Breaking Down Barriers,” will explore how zoning and land-use policies influence the types of housing available in communities and how local leaders can create more flexible policies to support a wider range of housing options.

Topics discussed during the session will include:

  • Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs)
  • Family compounds
  • Duplexes, triplexes, and fourplexes
  • Small-scale multifamily housing

“Housing availability and affordability are critical issues for communities across Central Indiana,” said Anna Gremling, IMPO’s Executive Director. “This conversation brings together planners, local leaders, and community stakeholders to explore how thoughtful policy changes can help expand housing options while supporting vibrant, inclusive neighborhoods.”

At the start of the Speaker Series, IMPO will host an open house highlighting its Maximizing the Value of Land (MVL) Study, which examines how different housing types impact local government budgets and inform future growth decisions.

The Planning in Action Speaker Series is a four-part program hosted by IMPO that explores how planning decisions shape housing, mobility, safety, and community life across the region. Future series and agenda of this speaker series can be found here.
