INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization will host the third installment of its 2026 Speaker Series, “Micromobility on Trails: Designing for Safety and Access,” from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 25 at the Indiana Historical Society.

The event will explore how the growing use of e-bikes, scooters and other micromobility devices is changing trails and shared-use paths across Central Indiana.

“As more people use e-bikes, scooters and other devices, communities need to think about how everyone can safely share our trails,” said Anna Gremling, executive director of the IMPO. “We want this conversation to give planners, local leaders and residents practical information they can use when making decisions about trails and transportation infrastructure across Central Indiana.”

The event will feature Tony Cherolis, executive director of Central Indiana Cycling, and David Littlejohn, planner and ADA coordinator for the city of Carmel. Steve Magas, known as The Ohio Bike Lawyer, will also share insights through a prerecorded video.

Cherolis leads Central Indiana Cycling, an organization focused on making bicycling safer, more accessible and more connected throughout the region. He will bring a local perspective to the discussion about micromobility and shared-use trails.

Magas has nearly 30 years of experience with bicycle law, crashes, advocacy and court cases. He will discuss how communities in Ohio and across the country are addressing the growth of micromobility.

Littlejohn has more than 20 years of public planning experience and focuses on bicycle, pedestrian and ADA projects, policies and infrastructure in Carmel. He will discuss the city’s micromobility policy, which took effect in November 2025. Carmel became the first community in the region to define and regulate e-motos separately from e-bikes.

Attendees can check in, network and enjoy light refreshments from 4:30 to 5 p.m. Presentations and a question-and-answer session will begin at 5 p.m., followed by networking from 6:15 to 6:30 p.m.

The event is free, and attendees can register in advance or onsite. AICP credits are available.

The IMPO will conclude its four-part 2026 Speaker Series on Nov. 4 with “Public Transit: Stories from the Streets,” featuring perspectives from transit users and employees.
